What Is Welding?

Welding is a process in which two metals are joined together by causing fusion. When welding, another material is added, and once the combination has cooled, the weld will become as strong as the original material. For more information about the basic process, you can look here.

The Three Basic Types of Welders

The three main types or welding are “TIG,” “Stick,” and “MIG.” TIG welding produces the highest quality welds but takes a lot of practice to master. Stick welding is one of the older types of welding and is the cheapest to start. MIG welding has two different types of processes, gas and gasless. There are many other types of welding, but they are not as commonly used, especially not for your everyday home improvement project. Check out this in-depth video on the types of welding here!

When to Weld

Welding can be done whenever you need to combine two different metals. It is very commonly used on farms, heavy machinery and automobiles. If you are unsure about what method to use, if you should be welding at all or the safety precautions to use when welding, check out the Welding Information Center here.
